Tropical Architecture Purpose
Tropical Architecture Goal The main objective of this architectural style is to best adapt the building to a tropical environment, create a comfortable space to live in and use for various daily activities and reduce the use of air conditioning and lighting energy. The building design is expected to be passive (formally and mechanically) to create a comfortable space, keep it cool and bright during the day and not easily damaged by heat and rain. Victor Olgay in his book “Design with a Climate”, develops rules and guidelines for climate responsive architecture in four examples of regions with different climates, one of which is for tropical environments with humid heat. Designing a house that is passive against a cool tropical environment, starts with location analysis, determines the position and orientation of the mass, determines the shape of the building, the shape of the roof, the position of the windows, materials, colors and so on.
